🧭 Why this matters first
Credential theft is the #1 cause of MSP client breaches: most start with a stolen password. MFA is the single highest-impact thing your organization can do today. Before we click anything, let's understand what we're protecting.
What MFA actually does
MFA adds a second confirmation step after your password. Even if someone steals it, they can't get in without your phone or hardware key. Think of it as a deadbolt on top of a regular lock.
Enabling MFA: step by step
1Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center at admin.microsoft.com with your administrator account.
2Go to Users → Active users. Every account in your organization is listed here.
3Select Multi-factor authentication from the top toolbar.
4Check the users to enable, click Enable. Users are prompted on their next sign-in.

What happens if a user's password is stolen after you enable MFA?
To enable multi-factor authentication for users in your organization, navigate to the Microsoft 365 admin center. Under Users, select Active users, then select Multi-factor authentication. In the multi-factor authentication pane, select the users you want to enable for MFA, then select Enable under quick steps. In the About enabling multi-factor auth dialog, select enable multi-factor auth. When the update is complete, select close. Users will be notified to complete the MFA setup process the next time they sign in. Notify affected users. See also: Conditional Access policies.
